About Best Sahara Tours

Best Sahara Tours began where every good desert story begins: at the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes, with a family who grew up under these stars. What started as guiding a handful of travellers to our own camp has grown into a full desert-tour company — but the philosophy has never changed. We show people the Sahara the way we would show a friend.

We are based in Merzouga, in the heart of Morocco's southeast, and we run our tours ourselves. That means the driver who picks you up in Marrakech or Fes, the guide who leads your camel trek, and the camp where you spend the night are all part of the Best Sahara Tours family. Nothing is outsourced to a stranger, and nobody knows these routes better.

Over the years Best Sahara Tours has hosted honeymooners, families with young children, photographers chasing the light, and solo travellers looking for something real. We have learned that no two trips are the same, which is why almost everything we offer can be tailored — the pace, the camps, the level of comfort and the route itself. Some guests want the classic three-day dash to the dunes and back; others want to linger for a week, weaving the Sahara together with the imperial cities, the Atlas Mountains and the Atlantic coast. We build the trip around you, not the other way round.

That local knowledge is the difference. Because we drive these roads every week, we know which viewpoint catches the best morning light, where to find a quiet lunch away from the tour buses, and which camp will suit a family with small children versus a couple on honeymoon. When something changes — weather in the Atlas, a festival in Rissani, a road closure — we adapt on the spot, because the whole team is local and reachable. We also believe travel should give back. Best Sahara Tours works directly with nomad families, Berber guesthouses, camel handlers, cooks and the artisans and musicians of the desert, so the money you spend stays in the community that makes your trip special. We keep our camps low-impact, we respect the fragile desert environment, and we treat every guest as we would a friend visiting our home.
